ARTHRO PRESERVE 360° - Joint Preservation Congress

Dr Raj R Thakrar is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery and sports injuries. He graduated from the Royal Free and University College London Medical School in 2006 with a First Class Honours BSc in Physiology and Pharmacology and a Merit in his MBBS degree. After completing specialty training in the West Midlands in 2017, he undertook advanced knee fellowship training at the Academic Lower Limb Reconstruction Unit at University College London Hospital and the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health. He further completed a second fellowship in periarticular knee osteotomy and ligament reconstruction at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital. His NHS practice is based at The Lister Hospital, where he manages adult and paediatric knee conditions as well as general trauma. His specialist interests include realignment osteotomy, arthroscopic ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, and unicompartmental, primary, and complex knee arthroplasty, particularly in young adults. Dr Thakrar is committed to evidence-based medicine and research, having received multiple research grants, published in peer-reviewed journals, authored book chapters, and presented at national and international meetings. He also serves as a reviewer for leading orthopaedic journals, including The Bone & Joint Journal. Passionate about education, he teaches from undergraduate to international faculty level and is invited faculty for the International Basingstoke Osteotomy Masterclass and the Royal College of Surgeons of England CCrISP course. Outside work, he enjoys rugby, cricket, Formula 1, Taijutsu, and spending time with his young family.
